The Homewood patriot band was recognized by Birmingham magazine as the best band in Birmingham Also the Homewood community was recognized as best 100 communities for music education in America
History of School/Band:  
Homewood Patriot Band The Homewood Patriot Band celebrates forty years of existence. Homewood Patriot Band was founded in 1972. It was taken over by Pat Morrow in 1977, who continued to direct the band until the spring of 1996. Ron Pence became director in the fall of 1996 and continues to lead the current band. The band is known worldwide for its excellence. This excellence starts every day in the bandroom and on the practice field. Three stars hang over the podium in the bandroom. These stars say Pride, Perfection, and Professionalism. These three things are what every band students strives for in their everyday life at Homewood High School. The Homewood Patriot Band consist of three concert bands, 3 percussion ensembles, jazz band, Patriot Color Guard, winter guard and the Star Spangled Girls. The band has competed and preformed in many events throughout the world. They have been featured in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade eight times. The band has also attended four Tournament of Roses Parades, two St. Patrick’s Day Parades in Dublin, Ireland, the Lord Mayor’s Parade in London, England, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and the Orange Bowl Parade. The Homewood Patriot Band has represented the State of Alabama in both George Bush and George W. Bush Inaugural Parades. The Homewood Patriot Band program has experienced unprecedented growth over the last 10 years. Growing from 180 to over 350 during this time. There are 800 plus students grades 6-12. Additional Information of Interest to the Public:  
Our uniform lady Anna Laura burton gas been a volunteer since 1972. She has been working with the band since it began and at 84 she still inspects all the students uniforms to make sure they fit exactly. The band director Ron Pences oldest son Will Pence is marching trumpet in the band this year. Home band has a set of freshmen triplets marching this year in the Rose Parade.
