Float Theme : Intergalactic Vacation
How/Why Theme Was Chosen:  
This theme was chosen by our design committee because it best represented the concept that we had chosen for this year's float.
How Float Theme Relates to Parade Theme:  
 
What person hasn't dreamed of going to outer space? We belive that this float design represents the theme by bringing fantasy and real life together in our own version of a "Dreams Come True" scenario.

Float Concept Description:  
A whimsical interpretation of a childhood dream of going to outer space. A family is posing for a photo op with an alien photographer on a hover board with the earth in the distant background while other explorers take in the scenery. the main float will be joined by a satellite float that will represent a 1950's style rocket ship towing a teardrop trailer.

Construction Width: 24 feet that folds to 18 feet for convoy

Flowers and Dry Materials Used for Decorating:  
 
15 varieties of roses, Gerbera Daisies, hydrangea, spider mums, spoon mums, button mums, spray mums and carnations. raintree pods, agapanthus stems, "million stars' Gypsophillia, reindeer moss, tiger lilies, casablanca lilies, stargazer lilies, liatras, snapdragons and delphinium an estimated 1.5 million locally collected Bouganvillea flowers that were harvested from in and around South Pasadena. These blooms are used in every form from whole leaves for petaling and even in powder form with 100 whole blooms yielding only 1 tablespoon of powdered Bougainvillea. 500 hand cut and decorated stars 600 pounds of raw cotton will for the base cover on the clouds.
Estimated Number of Flowers Used (by type):  
 
20,000 roses, 20,000 carnations and 15,000 mums. an estimated 1.5 million locally collected Bouganvillea flowers that were harvested from in and around South Pasadena. These blooms are used in every form from whole leaves for petaling and even in powder form with 100 whole blooms yielding only 1 tablespoon of powdered Bougainvillea.
Unique or Unusual Use of Decorating Materials:  
 
Raw cotton and crushed bouganvilliea blooms the satellite float is covered in mini roses, mini carns, silver leaf and poinsettia petals
Description of Float Animation:  
The alien photogapher will defy gravity on his hover board on the front of the float by use of hydraulic animation that was designed in whole by 20 year old assistant construction chair Bob Abbey. other characters and animaition will be featured throughout the float

The Mission of the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee is to create positive exposure for our city through participation in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, which will elevate our community and our organization by using principles based on voluntarism for the successful completion of our annual floral entry.
